OVERVIEW

The New England Society in the City of New York (NES), founded in 1805, is one of the oldest charitable organizations in the United States. Founded for the purpose of promoting “friendship, charity, and mutual assistance,” NES celebrates New England heritage through its charitable works and social activities. Its philanthropic focus is education and historic preservation. NES funds a Scholarship Program for New York City students attending colleges and universities in New England. Another signature program is the annual New England Society Book Awards, which recognize books of merit that honor New England and its culture.

To be eligible for membership, applicants must demonstrate an affiliation with New England (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont) through Ancestry, Education or Residency.
